Do One Thing

godoggoI was surprised to see my colleague, Paul, early for our monthly mastermind meeting at the local coffee house. Since Paul’s fitness business serves folks at their home he often runs a bit late darting to meet us from across town.

This time though he had been gifted an extra 90 minutes. Paul planned to use his laptop to get some much needed work done before our scheduled meeting. Perfect situation, he thought. Instead of going home and possibly getting sidetracked, get there early.

Opened his laptop and fired it up. Blank screen. Nothing. No recognition of the hard drive.

He had too many approaching deadlines for the laptop to play these games now. Nausea was quickly setting in for Paul.

He hadn’t backed up a single thing. The thought of losing everything quickly set in many regrets.  Right now it was too late. He had to get his geeks on the job.

Paul bought that external hard drive 6 months ago to back up his data in case an event like this ever happened. He got lazy and he got caught. He knew immediately that he was about to pay for his irresponsibility.

It’s kind of like that treadmill/bicycle/elliptical/power plate/ gym membership you purchased. Oh the sensibility at the moment of purchase. You quickly reason out every objection. Of course you’ll use it- dammit!

A month later your pajamas are hanging on it… then your damp bath towel.  Before you know it, it’s buried.  Perfect. Out of sight, out of mind.

Oh the regrets.

With the 70 degree weather on its way you now regret using your hibernation card this winter. Geez, but it was way too cold and snowy to go out. Getting on your treadmill felt chilly despite the fact that it’s in your second bedroom.  Hibernation was successful, but those extra 10 pounds are screaming at you now.

What to do, what to do.

Do this immediately:

Stop doing what makes you stuck, stressed, drained and sick.

Start doing what nourishes, strengthens, cleanses, and encourages the body to what it does best, support you.

Continue doing what serves your health and wellness.

  1. Identify what is creating conflict.
  2. What obstacle stands in your way?
  3. What are you carrying with you that prevents you from a greater satisfaction? Stop it.
  4. What positive new habit might you add that will lead you in the direction of positivity? Start it
  5. What’s working well? Continue.

Pick just one thingStart one thing. Stop one thing. Continue one thing.

Accept the good.

Let good lay the foundation for change. Don’t let great be the enemy of good or you’ll never get started. You’ll trap yourself and your efforts if you let the promise of great thwart your progression.

Small steps like these enable you to begin immediately.

Flooding your plate with 7 different changes sounds mighty good but it’s a TALL order. Earn the changes by taking the small steps toward getting to where you want to be.

If you buy it, use it.

Don’t be like Paul sweating it out over regrets of not backing up data.

Imagine the goodness of completion with that one small significant change.

Do It Now.
